1. Marina Beach

India’s largest beach happens to be Chennai’s Marina Beach which extends from Fort St. George to Besant Nagar. One of the best places to visit in Chennai for viewing a spectacular sunrise, this sandy delight is lined by palm trees on one side.
Marina Beach is a natural urban beach in the Chennai city, along the Bay of Bengal, part of the Indian Ocean. 2. Elliot’s Beach

Now renamed as Besant Nagar Beach, Elliot’s is one of the places to see in Chennai and less crowded than the popular Marina Beach. On the southern side this seashore are the famed AshtaLakshmi Temple and Velankanni Church, popular among the residents of Chennai.
3. Covelong Beach

The Dutch built a fort in Covelong during the colonial times, which today has been made the Taj Fisherman's Cove, a private luxury beach resort. An ancient Catholic church on the beach is another attraction. There is also a Dharga & temple nearby the beach.

4. Fort St. George

Fort Museum , has displays on Chennai's origins and the fort itself, and interesting military memorabilia and artwork from colonial times. The 1st-floor portrait gallery of colonial-era VIPs includes a very assured-looking Robert Clive. Also within the fort is St Mary's Church , India's oldest surviving British church.

5. San Thome Church

This is a magnificent building over the tomb of the Apostle St Thomas. It is one of only three sites in the world known to have the remnants of an Apostle who was one of the 12 disciples of Jesus. At the church, the presence of “Our Lady of Mylapore” makes it all the more special to Christians. The sight of “Our Lady” seated on a throne with her hands joined in prayer creates a respectful atmosphere. This beautiful statue of “Our lady” was brought to SanThome by a Portuguese Parish priest.

6. Sri Parthasarathy Temple

The Parthasarathy Swamy Temple is one of the 108 Divya Desams, is said to have been renovated by a King of Pallava dynasty. "Brindaranya" is the traditional Puranic name of Thiru-Alli-Keni now known as Thiruvallikeni or modern Triplicane. The Parthasarathy Temple is an 8th-century Hindu Vaishnavite temple dedicated to the god Krishna, located at Triplicane, Chennai, India. The temple is glorified in the Divya Prabandha, the early medieval Tamil literature canon of the Alvar saints from the 6th–9th century.

7. Kapaleeshwar Temple

One of the sacred shrines in Tamil Nadu is Arulmigu Kapaleeswarar Temple in Mylapore, in Chennai City.It is a Siva Temple, and the name of the Lord is Arulmigu Kalpaleeshwarar. The name of the Goddess is Arulmigu Karpagambal. It is a loverly temple with a Stately Spire or ‘Gopuram’ as it is called. There is a big tank on its West. The temple and the tank are surrounded by Broad streets on the four sides. The view of the temple and the tank is attractive.

8. Thousand Lights Mosque

The Thousand Lights Mosque spread over an area of three acres is one of the largest mosques in India and is situated on Anna Salai Road. Built by Nawab Umdat-ul-Umra in 1810, the mosque bears a story behind its name. It is said that 1000 lights needed to be lit in order to illuminate the assembly hall and hence it was named Thousand Lights Mosque.
The Thousand Lights Mosque is a pilgrimage site for the Shiite Muslims and it is situated at a place which used to be the standing place for them during the month of Muharram.

9. Connemara Public Library

Connemara Public Library at Chennai is one of the four National Depository Libraries which receive a copy of all books, newspapers and periodicals published in India. Established in 1896 the library is a repository of centuries-old publications, wherein lie some of the most respected works and collections in the country. The library was as part of a cultural complex that grew in the grounds of what was once called 'The Pantheon'.

10. Arignar Anna Zoological Park

Chennai has the distinction of having the first zoo in India, created in 1855. This was shifted from the then Madras City to Vandalur Reserve Forest and a modern Zoological Park was established in 1979 by the Tamil Nadu Forest Department. Spread over 510 ha. of dry evergreen forests with gentle undulating terrain, the specially created open wet and dry island type enclosures with hidden walls and simulated natural environment help the animals, birds and reptiles to feel their natural environment. Chimpanzee, the nearest ancestor to human beings, keeps you busy for a while.

11. Semmozhi Poonga

The garden features eight sub gardens displaying flora of different varieties, such as a tree court, mural walk and bonsai, herbal and exotic gardens, in addition to an artificial duck pond. Incorporating elements of an Indian-Buddhist garden, the garden has a wide variety of indigenous species across 22 exclusive areas including palm court, tree court, golden garden, water and rock garden, butterfly garden, fern garden, sunken garden and theme garden.
Twenty-five thematic gardens, including herbal, aromatic, maze and cascade adorn every corner of the park. The Bonsai garden is dotted with trees whose height range from 1 foot to 4 feet. At the fag end of the park is the Cascade garden.
12. MGM Dizzee World

About 35 km from Chennai, alongside the East Coast Road, is MGM Dizzee World, one of the largest amusement and entertainment parks in India. Located in the Muttukadu region on the outskirts of Chennai,
the MGM Dizzee World Chennai is considered to be one of the most liked and visited places in Tamil Nadu. Slides, roller coaster, amusement rides and more are available here that offer absolute fun for all ages.
